Tyssedal Hotel is an impressive building from 1913, designed in elegant Art Nouveau style. The hotel is located in a magnificent and dramatic landscape along National Road 13, surrounded by two national parks, where pristine nature meets the history of hydropower development that shaped modern Norway. This offers visitors the perfect starting point for iconic hikes to Trolltunga or the Folgefonna Glacier. For those seeking a more peaceful experience, there are alternatives like scenic fjord cruises or relaxing walks through Hardanger's fertile orchards.
Originally, Tyssedal Hotel served as accommodation for employees of the local power company, housing engineers and directors from around the world who came here to make important decisions and exchange ideas. Today, the hotel proudly displays an impressive collection of original Norwegian art, including works by Nils Bergslien, Christian Krohg’s famous painting "The Yarn Binder," as well as works by Morten Müller, Hans Dahl, Anders Askvoll, and several others. Nils Bergslien himself lived at the hotel, painting in exchange for food and lodging. His artwork captures the magic of Norwegian folklore, full of trolls and mythical figures.
The hotel has 26 rooms of varying standards – from single rooms to rooms that can accommodate up to five people. Just 6 km north of Odda, the hotel provides guests with access to a range of activities in the surrounding area, including fishing, hiking, and skiing. The starting point for the Trolltunga trail is in Skjeggedal, just a 10-minute drive from the hotel, and the Norwegian Hydropower and Industry Museum is only 400 meters away.
The hotel also offers a fantastic sauna with panoramic views of the majestic Folgefonna mountains and the beautiful fjord. For guests who wish to relax outdoors, we have terraces where you can enjoy the fresh air and admire the beauty of nature while tasting local specialties, including products from nearby cideries.
